About Us

At Mulgrave Park Preschool we believe in helping every child develop into confident and capable learners through building on their individual strengths, celebrating their individual identity and culture and building an inclusive environment. In doing this we base our philosophy on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), embracing the following outcomes:-
Outcome 1, Identity: Relationships play an essential role in the development of a child’s identity. We believe in forming strong, positive relationships with each individual child and their family. Being a very multi-cultural community we love to celebrate the cultures of our families in helping children develop their identity. This includes acknowledging Aboriginal families and their connection to the land in which the preschool is built upon.
Outcome 2, Community: In creating a strong sense of belonging we value and encourage the contributions that each child offers to our learning community. We also believe in offering children opportunities to engage in a wide range of activities that enhance their connection with the world around them. As part of this we strive to share and practice sustainability through helping children and families gain skills in caring for our environment. We also value the contributions that our families make to the preschool and welcome family involvement in our program.
Outcome 3, Wellbeing: Every child has the right to develop a strong sense of wellbeing including social, emotional and physical wellbeing. We believe this is achieved through responsive and reciprocal relationships and through helping children develop the skills needed to take responsibility for their own health and physical well-being.
Outcome 4, Learning: Through our indoor-outdoor program we encourage each child to develop an intrinsic motivation to learn – in other words, we want children to be eager to learn and make new discoveries. In order to do this we focus on children’s individual interests and build on essential learning dispositions and skills that will be of immense benefit to their future learning. This includes the development of persistence, imagination, creativity, curiosity, cooperation and reflective skills. We also encourage children to develop skills in investigation and experimentation, with inquiry based learning playing a large part in our curriculum.
Outcome 5, Communication: We encourage each child to develop effective communication skills through offering ample opportunities for conversation and discussion, enabling children to engage with a wide variety of text, giving the children the opportunities to express their ideas, allowing access to information and communication technologies to build on their ideas and helping them develop an understanding of symbol and pattern systems. We also value the first/home language of each child and work towards children maintaining this as well as establishing other languages.
Through embracing our philosophy we believe that each child will integrate into the school system with confidence and excitement, which will form the basis of their future success and happiness.
